Hello, I would like to thank you for your help on my protein question.

I visited your website and it is wonderful. You have provided an excellent, professional and helpful site! I am especially interested in the Paxil issue. I am on Paxil for Fibromyalgia. It helps with depression and it has also been found that Paxil as a Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor also blocks some of the pain that is experienced.

Anyway, earlier this year through routine bloodwork, my Bg counts were slightly elavated. Throughout the year my Bgs were watched for elavation and continued to climb up slowly. This ended in the disaster of being diagnosed as Type 2 last month. My point in all this is as the Bg rose so did my dosage of Paxil starting with 10 mg, and ending lastly with a dosage of 30mg per day a short time before diagnoses. Coincidence??? It has my attention now.

Thanks again for your help.

For my diet recommendations, including calculating how much protein to take, see http://208.56.101.119/diabetes/diet.htm.

I would suggest that you include a Whey Isolate protein in your diet (I use and recommend SISU Body Elite Whey Protein Isolate-unsweetened), 1 scoop (30g) provides 26.4g of protein with only 0.3g fat and 1.5g carbohydrates. I mix it in 4oz of 1% milk. You can also get a sweetened version (uses Acesulfame-potassium and sucralose) where 1 scoop (30g) providing 24.6g protein with 0.3g fat and 3g carbs.

Depending on which state you live in you, and you have medical coverage, you could also get a prescription grade, and very expensive form of Whey protein called Immunocal/HMS90 (Physicians' Desk Reference page 1438, National Drug Control code 28770-0970-01, and medicare claim number B4155).

Hi, I am newly diagnosed and I have only posted once to the group. I have not yet reached control. I was diagnosed with type 2 about a month ago. My numbers run from about 320 to 500 all the time. I was on glucophage 500mg 2x daily . At the doctor's today I was prescribed Amaryl to take 1x. My BG have stayed in the 200 all day!! I hope this will continue. I have been following a basic diabetic exchange diet. Anyway Doc told me to substiute more protien and as take in even less carbs at least till I gain some control. I am allergic to fish and peanuts and not really all that fond of meat( but I do eat it) Any suggestions on working the protien in ?

Thanks in advance,
Deb
